Volunteering--American Red Cross

Well last week I went and talked with the nice people at the Red Cross here on post. They were so nice and welcoming and I decided I wanted to volunteer there. I was really excited to find out that they wanted someone to help out with marketing and promotion of events and services that they have during the year. So today was my first day volunteering.... We have a 5k/10k coming up in May and I counted and organized all the freebies that we are going to give to the participants. I am really excited about getting to help with the marketing part of everything, I think it will be really good experience and I will also be helping a really good cause. I never knew that the Red Cross did anything more than blood and CPR certification stuff. Then once I became aware of the military aspect of it, I learned that the Red Cross is the middle man between people at home and service members deployed all over the world. If an emergency happens at home the family contacts the Red Cross and then the Red Cross communicates with the service members unit to work to get them home for the home family. In the last week I have learned that the Red Cross helps families that are in need of money, clothing, shelter, and food. I will keep you updated on my work.. Everything else has been pretty much the same around here. On Sunday we are going to Keeneland Race Track for Military Appreciation Day. The Army Band is playing some and we also get to see some of the races. This will be a good warm up for the Kentucky Derby! :-)

This is great. Like you said, you'll get to learn more about a subject you enjoy (marketing) and it will be for a great cause.

You and Andrew should run in the 5k run!
